Audio-Chroma Recording was the brainchild of Kevin Leadford, principal engineer for Lithonia Lighting. In late 1996 after careful research of acoustical design and construction, Kevin began his quest to build the perfect acoustical space. To create this space, it was indeed time to find the right recording equipment to capture what would to be created at Audio-Chroma Recording. Kevin contacted his friend and fellow drummer Matt Cunningham to assist him with selecting the recording equipment. During this process the two aspiring engineers visited several local studios and enrolled in recording seminars to gain more knowledge of the recording process. After painstakingly selecting equipment, and writing a business plan, it was off to the bank.

Once the financing was secured, construction began in late spring of 1997. Kevin and Matt, along with several other local musicians, helped transform a pole barn in Mace, IN into a modern recording studio. Once the studio construction was completed and all of the gear was in place,
Audio-Chroma Recording was open for business. Kevin operated the studio successfully from the summer of 1997 until mid 1998 when he was promoted to Vice President in charge of engineering at Lithonia Lighting.

Coincidentally at this time, Matt had returned to Indiana from his 2nd journey to L.A. where he worked as a professional musician. Frustrated with the music scene, Matt was eager to embarkonthe opportunity to own Audio-Chroma Recording. With 2 weeks to go before Kevin's big move to Conyers, GA, Matt began the task to find financing. Because of his recent out of state residence, he was turned down by almost every bank in town. Finally, he was offered to process the loan providing he had a cosigner. Matt convinced his father this was a good investment and a cosigner was found.

Under new ownership,
Audio-Chroma Recording moved to the more easily accessible Crawfordsville, IN. Audio-Chroma Recording has been in business since July of 1998 at its current location and is growing with each passing year. Today the studio has found a niche working with songwriters, independent groups, artists and labels releasing their music on-line. Audio-Chroma Recording is also used for regional radio and television jingles, voice-overs for on-hold messaging, radio commercials and cartoons. Graphic design and CD duplication is also available.
